Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works successfully passed an audit
of its quality management system (QMS) for compliance with the ASES
standard – a single system for assessing suppliers of the
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
The ASES (the Alliance Supplier Evaluation
Standard) system is a tool for evaluating the quality system of a
supplier company and its use in production to ensure compliance with
the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's standards. This grading
system is available to all car manufacturers within the alliance.
Avtovaz has also been using it since 2010.
During the audit, compliance with the ASES
standard is determined by assessing suppliers’ QMS and production
line (process indicator), as well as the number of reclamations
(evaluating current results). A final rank is assigned at the end of
the audit. During the current assessment, over three days, all major
indicators of PJSC MMK’s production system were reviewed - from the
application phase to working with suppliers. PJSC MMK received the
final ‘B rank’ grade, which confirms the high level of its
quality management system and qualifies the Company’s goods for use
in future Alliance projects. Successfully passing the audit was made
possible by the well-coordinated interaction of all of MMK’s
divisions in developing and maintaining the quality management system
and its processes.
The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is the
primary customer of PJSC MMK's automotive-grade rolled steel. Working
with automakers is one of the plant's top priorities in terms of
production and sales. Under its strategic initiative ‘Supplier No.
1 for the most demanding clients of the automotive industry in the
domestic market’, the Company has been developing production of
automotive sheets, a high-quality alternative to imports. PJSC MMK is
now a leading supplier of ferrous metal products to automakers and
associated businesses. The Company accounts for almost half of the
entire volume of rolled steel supplied to Russian car manufacturers.
Quality is particularly important to the Company. To minimise
inconsistencies, PJSC MMK actively employs the 8D approach, which
helps improve quality by analysing the reasons for faults detected in
direct interaction with consumers of rolled metal products.
