Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works has risen from tenth to fourth
place in World Wildlife Fund Russia's 2021 transparency ranking of
environmental information for mining and metallurgical companies in
Russia.
In 2021, 38 companies from the metals and mining
sector were included in the WWF Russia rankings. WWF Russia has been
issuing annual rankings of environmental responsibility of Russian
companies since 2017; their purpose is to help improve the
environmental situation in Russia, as well as to raise public and
business awareness of the importance of timely and full disclosure of
information about the environmental impact of production.
Companies participating in the rating are
evaluated according to three criteria: the quality of environmental
management, the level of environmental impact and the completeness of
information disclosure. MMK ranked particularly high on the third
criterion, taking joint third place.
In 2021, MMK significantly strengthened its
position in international ratings that assess the quality of
environmental reporting disclosure. For example, in September 2021,
AK&M rating agency rated MMK's environmental disclosure as one of
the best in Russia. And in November 2021, MMK was ranked first in the
ESG transparency rating of Russian companies and banks compiled by
Expert RA rating agency. MMK received the highest score, including in
the environmental information disclosure criterion.
