The Supervisory Board of ALROSA, the world's largest diamond mining
company, has approved the new 2025-2029 Sustainability
Program.
ALROSA's key goal is to maintain its focus
on the development of the communities in regions of operations, to
adopt more ambitious commitments to reduce climate and environmental
impact, and to make sustainable development as the fundamental
principle of our work and our supply chain.
The first
strategic document outlining the foundational principles and approach
of the Company to manage sustainability issues, as well as setting
goals, objectives, and key performance indicators in this area, the
ALROSA
Sustainability Program for 2021-2025, was approved back in
2021. Since then ALROSA went through significant ESG transformation,
including the establishment of a sustainable development management
system, assessment of sustainability risks and opportunities, and the
creation of a non-financial reporting system in accordance with IFRS
standards.
Despite the significant global transformation
and all the challenges, most of the tasks set out in the 2021-2025
Program were accomplished ahead of schedule in 2023-2024. To address
the current challenges of a rapidly changing environment and to
identify additional areas requiring attention, the Company has
decided to update its ESG goals and objectives for the next five-year
period.
“In our new Program, we have retained key
strategic pillars—decent and safe working conditions, preservation
of environment and climate, development of communities in the regions
where we operate and improvement of governance system efficiency.
These principles underpin ALROSA Group's work in sustainability, take
into account the objectives of the national diamond industry
development and national ESG agenda, underpin the Company's
contribution toward achieving 13 priorities of UN Sustainable
Development Goals,” pointed out ALROSA's CEO Pavel Marinychev.
To
preserve a more favorable environment and climate ALROSA has set a
more ambitious goal on reducing water intake from natural sources,
along with a new goal of maintaining a high level of water recycling
and reuse by diamond mining assets. Moreover, a more comprehensive
and extensive effort to preserve and replenish biodiversity is
specified. Simultaneously, by 2030, ALROSA aims to achieve carbon
neutrality for its diamond production. This target is to be reached
by mitigation projects, enhancing energy efficiency, increasing the
share of renewables in the energy balance, and implementing the
kimberlite CO2 absorption project.
ALROSA will continue to
fulfill its obligations under socioeconomic agreements with the
regions of operations and maintain the overall investment volume in
regional development of our diamond communities.
ALROSA
also remains focused on ensuring decent and safe working conditions,
including ensuring equal opportunities (at least 30% women in the
total workforce and at least 25% in leadership positions), expanding
social support programs for employees, and increasing their
engagement and satisfaction levels. The constant top priority is zero
fatalities, accidents and disasters, reduction of occupational
diseases and advancing automation and digitalization in labor
protection and industrial safety.
The Program places
additional emphasis on effective governance and high standards of
business ethics. The Company will disclose information annually about
progress in implementing the Program’s objectives, including in its
sustainability reports.
