Employees of Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies), repaired 422 km of high-voltage power transmission lines during 7 months of the current year. Including 119 km of 35 kV lines and 303 km of 110 kV lines. The works are carried out under the annual repair program and preparation of the power grid complex for smooth and continuous operation during the forthcoming autumn and winter period.

In the course of the works, employees have already replaced 7,688 worn-out insulators, repaired support basements, grounding loop, and supports of insulator strings. They painted supports and applied dispatch markings and warning signs. In addition, for the purpose of improving the reliability of overhead lines, insulators strings will be double secured and ground wire protecting the line against lighting discharge will be replaced at the points of intersection with railways and motor roads. Works are currently underway on OHLs Dimitrovgradskaya 1,2, Maina–Yazykova, Melekess-Gorodskaya 1,2. Repairs of these lines are accompanied by installation of fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) which ensures high-speed transmission of large amounts of information, increases transmission capacity for transfer of telemechanics information, data of automatic systems for commercial accounting, dispatch and technological communication. Trial operation of fiber-optic communication line is designed to enhance operational efficiency, reliability and manageability of the power grid complex.

Removal of trees and scrubs from overhead line routes is an integral part of repair works. The branch employees have already cleared 228.5 ha. Proper cutting of bushes and trees in protection areas of OHL will significantly reduce the risk of OHL technological failures due to contact with branches of trees. Before the beginning of the autumn and winter period, power engineers will repair 67.8 km more of 35–110 kV lines. Following the repairs, the branch will conduct a review competition for the best OHL. Specialists will evaluate the overall technical and aesthetical condition of the repaired lines.
