Saratov Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies), continues examination of power grid facilities using thermal imaging and UV diagnostic equipment. In the first half of 2016, power engineers verified technical condition of 184 substations and 92 overhead transmission lines (OHL) with voltages of 35 and 110 kV. UV diagnostics covered 16 OHL with 110 kV voltage. Thermal imaging control allows for early detection of defects of contact connections of equipment, insulation breakdown, and other damages. These non-contact measurements are carried out without decommissioning the equipment. For example, the thermal imager allows power engineers to look inside the transformer and to evaluate its condition without interrupting its operation. Use of equipment for UV control of OHL supplements infrared examination and makes it possible to detect corona discharge, partial discharges, and arcing. The data obtained allow for updating the planning and implementation of the investment and repair programs and reduction of power grid facilities operation costs.
