Power engineers of Penzaenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies) reported the results of their repair program for 2015. Launched in April, the program lasted until the early October. Over this period, power specialists of the branch, together with contracted specialists, completed capital repairs at 62 transformer substations (35-110 kV), and repaired 147 transformers of Cat. I-II, as well as 1,107 low-voltage transformers rated for 6/10-0.4 kV. The repair campaign for 2015 also provided for repair of 35-110 kV overhead transmission lines with the total length of 849 km, and 0.4-10 kV overhead transmission lines with the total length of 4,017 km. It should be noted that vegetation management is one of the most important aspects of any repair campaign. This includes removal of trees and scrubs in the rights-of-way areas within the boundaries of the buffer zones and extension of the buffer zone itself. By this time, vegetation management activities have been completed on the area of 443.9 ha, covering the buffer zones of 6,10, 35 and 110 kV overhead transmission lines. As provided by the investment and the repair programs, activities for extension of the buffer zones and ROW areas have been completed over the area of 177.7 ha. For vegetation management and ROW extension activities, petrol driven chainsaws, brush-cutting and chipping machines and special mulching machinery were used. At the moment, these operations are still in progress. It is expected that during 2015 vegetation management operations in the rights-of-way and buffer zones along the overhead transmission lines will cover the area of 709 ha. The objective of the repair campaign is to reach the appropriate level of operational reliability of regional power grid facilities and to guarantee faultless power supply for industrial and residential consumers of the Penza region. Besides, the repair campaign is a prerequisite for efficient winterization activities to ensure failure-free operation during the peak loads in the 2015-2016 autumn and winter season.
