?fficial launch of a new gas processing installation at the Sosnogorsk Gas Processing Plant

An official ceremony took place earlier today to mark the launch of a new gas processing equipment at the Severgasprom Gas Processing Plant in Sosnogorsk (Komi Republic). Mr. Alexander Ryazanov, Chairman of the Management Board of OAO Gasprom, and Mr. Niroslav Fiala, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Skoda JS (Plzen, Czech Republic), took part in the ceremony.

Skoda JS, part of OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group), acted as the general contractor on the reconstruction project at the Sosnogorsk Gas Processing Plant.

The new equipment is developed according to modern technologies and international standards. Its processing capacity reaches 3 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The installation will produce 60,000 tons of propane, 120,000 tons of propane-butane and 25,000 of stable condensate annually.

The launch of the new equipment will lead to a marked improvement in the ecological state in Ukhta and Sosnogorsk. Pollution levels of carbon oxides in the atmosphere will go from 475 down to 76.8 tons per year and natrium dioxide – from 199.6 down to 72.1 tons per year.

“The reconstruction of the Sosnogorsk Gas Processing Plant will allow deep processing of the total volume of gas at the Vuktilsk gas fields and extract up to 98% of target components. At the same time the plant will not only increase its capacity but also become more competitive and improve its export potential” said Mr. Ryazanov in his speech.

Additional information:
In 1999 Skoda JS won a tender to upgrade the gas processing equipment at the Sosnogorsk Gas Processing Plant. Companies from Japan, USA and Germany participated in the tender along with Skoda JS.

In March 2000 Severgasprom and Skoda JS signed the contract. The period of reconstruction was determined to be 27 months. The launch of the upgraded equipment took place on 20 November 2004.

The Sosnogorst Gas Processing Plant Severgasprom was founded in 1941 (known as Ukhtinski Gas Processing Plant until 1981). Until recently the plant was equipped with gas processing installation GOU-USK-2 with an annual capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas and total extraction of target components did not exceed 40%.

OMZ is one of Russia’s largest machine-building companies. OMZ has manufacturing facilities in Russia and the Czech Republic. The company specializes in engineering, sales and servicing of equipment for the nuclear and mining industries, the manufacture of specialty steel and the provision of machinery manufacturing services.

Skoda JS has been a subsidiary of OMZ since the second half of 2004. Skoda JS specializes in engineering, production and servicing equipment for the nuclear power plant and gas processing industries.
