Uralkali

September 2, 2004

Uralkali exceeds the plan targets for filling mine voids under Berezniki

At the last session of the Legislative Assembly of the Perm Region the deputies considered the report on the implementation by Uralkali of the regional program "Assuring Safe Vital Activity of the City of Berezniki in 2002 - 2007." Under this program all mine voids under the city are to be filled within 6 years.

For the first time the void-filling work carried out by Uralkali was assessed in July 2004, when the Company was visited by a Working Group formed by the deputies of the Legislative Assembly. The Working Group came to the conclusion that all void-filling volumes were coped with in accordance with the schedule established by the program and void-filling work was carried out ahead of the plan. In 2002, the filling volumes reached 4,470 thousand tons (270 thousand tons over and above the plan target), in 2003, 4,764 thousand tons (an extra 564 thousand tons compared to the plan). The void-filling plan was also fulfilled ahead of the schedule in the first half of 2004.

The Working Group submitted all these conclusions to the Legislative Assembly which admitted that Uralkali was successfully implementing the program.

"Uralkali is taking a very responsible stand with regard to fulfillment of the void-filling plan," says Nikolai Devyatkin, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Perm Region. "We received one of the most explicit and transparent reports on the expenditure of funds and fulfillment of the regional program and, therefore, the deputies supported the subject of its further financing."

The Legislative Assembly decided that 19.8 million rubles would be allocated in 2005 for void-filling work under the program from the budget of the Perm Region and the same amount from the budget of the city of Berezniki. Moreover, the deputies of the regional parliament believe that the problem of the safety of Berezniki has a federal significance. Therefore they recommended that the administration of the Perm Region intensify the work with the Government of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council and the State Duma for attraction of funds from the federal budget for filling voids under Berezniki.
