On March 21, 2003 international rating agency Standard& Poor’s assigned an RKU 5.3 (out of 10) rating to OJSC Central Telecom.
The overall rating is an average score based on the following areas, which were ranked on a scale of 1 - 10:
Ownership structure an shareholder influence 5.5 points
Financial rights of large shareholders and relations with them 6.5 points
Financial transparency and disclosure of information 4.7 points
Structure of Board of Directors and its work practice 4.5 points
Central Telecom continues to conduct active work to improve its corporate governance practice. Such actions include: improving the company's management structure, forming a team of highly skilled managers, framing the company's Corporate Conduct Code, and implementing a new program used to deal with investors.
Special attention is being devoted to financial transparency and availability of information. Work is being carried out to launch a new corporate website in Russian and English.
The company's management is confident that all actions aimed at creating a corporate governance system compliant with international standards will be highly instrumental in boosting Central Telecom's investment appeal.
