The number of Siberia Telecom’s GSM- and NMT-standards cellular communication subscribers has reached 507,000. The breakdown for the company’s cellular subsidies operating in GSM standard, based on 2003 results, is as follows: Eniseitelecom (Krasnoyarskregion) – 243,000, Bailkalvestcom (Irkutskregion) – 183,000, Sayantelecom (Republicof Khakasiya) – 6,000, STeK GSM (Kemerovoregion) – 4,000. In addition, the subscriber base of Ulan Udensk Cellular Network, a business division of Elektrosvyaz Siberia Telecom in Buriatia, stood at 49,000.
In 2004, Siberia Telecom’s investment program calls for investing over $60 million in the roll-out of cellular assets. At the beginning of the year, the company signed a number of contracts for the delivery of telecommunications equipment. Concluding these contracts will enable the company to expand the capacity of its switching facilities to 350,000 lines in Krasnoyark, 70,000 lines in Norilsk, 300,000 lines in Irkutskregion and 50,000 lines in Kemerogo region.
Siberia Telecom is taking steps to upgrade its GSM standard network in Siberian regions and intends to capture up to 25% of the cellular market in Siberiaby 2005.
