Far East Telecom commences construction of fiber optic line in Jewish Autonomous Region

Far East Telecom has commenced construction of a 190 km long Birobijan – Leninskoye village of the Jewish Autonomous Region (JAR).  The route is slated to run through nearly all villages of the Birobijan district and nine villages in the Leninsky district of the JAR.

The project is valued at over Rub 30 mln.  Digital telephone exchanges have been established in all villages where the fiber optic line is to run.  Construction will be handled by special mechanized teams from Far East Telecom.  One of them has already run a cable along a 2-km stretch and two more are set to go up within the next couple of days.  The construction team has accepted the commitment to complete operations by mid-August 2004.

According to branch head of Far East Telecom for the Jewish Autonomous Region Nikolai Veretennikov, construction of the fiber optic line is a gift from telecom authorities on the 70th anniversary of the Jewish Autonomous Region, which is to be celebrated in September.

Sergei Lavruk, head of the Leninsky district of the Jewish Autonomous Region spoke highly of the project.  He said it is a major project for the whole region.  “This basically puts us on a whole new level in terms of our telecom development.  The fiber optic line will provide quality telecom services to the people of our villages, as well as data transmission and Internet”, said Lavruk.

Implementation of this project will allow Far East Telecom to make new plans and run other fiber optic lines in other areas of the Jewish Autonomous Region.
