Moscow 30 September 2003: SUAL Group, one of the world’s top ten aluminium producers, today announces the appointment of Chris Chapple as Chief Development Officer.
In this new role, Chris will be responsible for the development and execution of Group strategy, reporting directly to Chris Norval, Chief Executive. He will be a member of the executive management team, and will lead the drive to identify value-enhancing investment opportunities for the business.
Chris joins SUAL from Marconi plc, the global communications and information technology company, where he served as Director of Corporate Development. He joined Marconi in July 2001, to lead the Groups’ disposal programme and successfully completed 14 disposals, raising over GBP 1.5 billion. He helped develop Marconi’s five-year plan to restructure the business, and negotiate its financial restructuring with creditor groups.
Prior to joining Marconi, Chris spent almost ten years with Goldman Sachs, the global investment bank, in both London and Asia. He is a graduate of Oxford University where he read Law.
Chris Norval, Chief Executive of SUAL, commenting, said: “Chris has significant experience of strategy development and execution, gained at both a multi-national corporation and global investment bank.
