In November 2009, N.W.Telecom implemented the Internet service Dr.Web AV-Desk, enabling the Avangard service subscribers to use the licensed antiviral protection Dr.Web Antivirus service* by ordering the service via a web interface ( Personal Office on the web.) Currently, the service is available to Avangard users in St. Petersburg, but in the future it will be offered to broadband access (BBA) users in all regional branches of N.W.Telecom.

The Internet service Dr.Web AV-Desk enables BBA users to get a safe licensed antiviral protection instantly, without leaving their homes. Application of the SaaS-model software (Software as a Service) saves the users costs of buying more expensive “box” solutions, or using a less secure free software. Users can manage the service and plan their antiviral protection costs unassisted, e.g. selected the necessary Dr.Web Antivirus subscription period, suspend or automatically extend it.

The monthly subscription fee for the Dr.Web Antivirus service is 59 rubles, which in total is much lower than the cost of a license for “box” solutions of any antivirus. The service is provided on credit and charged in the overall bill for N.W.Telecom communication services. For the first connection to the Dr.Web Antivirus service, the payment for information protection will not be charged until the first day of the second month following the month of connection.

To activate the Dr.Web antiviral protection service, an Avangard user should enter his/her “ Personal Office”, indicate the service user telephone No., select the “Activate Service” link, and use the “Download To Install” link in the “Antiviral Protection” subsection. Next, the user will be advised to run or save a Dr.Web software installation file, which will perform unassisted installation of the program and connection to the antiviral server.

The offered Dr.Web Antivirus service using the SaaS model has become a logical continuation of implementation by N.W.Telecom of the system of detection and response to web security threats intended to detect “infected” computers of our users and to inform them about any viruses and malicious software. Thus, our Company provides a whole set of services at both operator and user level to its subscribers, which comprises malicious software detection, notifying the user accordingly, and providing the user with an affordable and safe tool for personal computer protection. All these activities improve the service quality, greatly reduce the scope of malicious traffic in the Internet, and protect our customers against web intruders.”
