Power Machines signed a Contract for delivery of power equipment for Dibis Thermal Power Plant (Iraq).
The decision to build the plant was made before the war in Iraq began. An Iraqi energy company and the Iraqi commission for energy ordered the equipment. The project, which is being implemented in the frame of the UN Program, was given a priority status, as it was developed to solve the energy supply program for the city of Kirkuk located 300 km from Baghdad. «BNP Paribas Bank» (USA) will finance the project.
In accordance with the terms of the Contract Power Machines are to manufacture and deliver two gas turbines of 160 MW capacity each and two turbo generators of the same capacity by the end of 2005. The equipment for the Iraqi plant will be manufactured at the enterprises-branches of Power Machines. Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod will produce gas turbines retrofitted to work on special fuel. The efficiency of generators produced by Electrosila will make 98,55 percent. Currently these generators are the most powerful in Russia. Similar machines are successfully used at the Northwest Thermal Power Plant and will be probably installed at Kaliningradskaya Thermal Power Plant.
It is expected that the TPP Dibis will be put into operation at the beginning of 2006. Despite the controversial situation in the Middle East, the company is not reducing its activity in this region. «Currently Power Machines execute a contract with the Iraqi transportation and communication ministry for 30 diesel locomotives. The first two locomotives will be put into operation soon. All the locomotives should be delivered by the end of this year», said Alexander Zhigalov, Sales Director of Power Machines. In addition, the company is involved in a number of other projects in Iraq, including building the TPP Yusifiya and the HPP Al Adaim.
