Rostelecom, Russia’s national long-distance telecommunications operator, and a delegation of the Communications and Information Network Association of Japan (CIAJ) held a working meeting in Moscow.
The meeting was arranged on the initiative of the Russian–Japanese Business Council (RJBC) and the issues under discussion included Rostelecom's role and the current situation in the Russian market, plans for development of the Company's infrastructure and further expanding cooperation between Rostelecom and Japanese manufacturers of telecommunications equipment.
Rostelecom’s delegation at the meeting was headed by Mr. Vladimir Terekhov, First Deputy General Director of the Company, while the CIAJ delegation was led by Mr. Kunio Akiba, Head of the First Planning department of the Japanese Association of Communications and Information networks. The Russian-Japanese Business Council was represented by Mr. Vyacheslav Pogonin, the Council Deputy Director.
Rostelecom is an active member of the RJBC and traditionally supports business relations with Japanese companies, telecoms operators and suppliers of telecommunications equipment in particular. The Company continues developing mutually beneficial cooperation, including the Europe-Asia transit (???) project, which provides for arranging traffic transit from Southeast Asia to Europe on a new technological level accross the territory of Russia.

The Communications and Information Network Association of Japan (CIAJ) was set up in 1948. Today it incorporates about 300 companies, which produce and develop information and communications systems, equipment and specific components and offer respective services. It maintains contacts with similar organizations in Europe, North America and Asia.
