Rostelecom, Russia’s national long-distance telecommunications operator, and and “I-Teco” have concluded an agreement on performance of modernization works for the corporate data transmission network (CDTN).

Within this project the mentioned modernization will be performed on the kernel segments of CDTN based on the Cisco Systems equipment taking into account the common requirements to the central CDTN nodes in the branch offices of the Company in Moscow and seven regions. Utilization of the high-speed transmission channels and making of backup (redundant) connections between CDTN units will ensure a higher bandwidth that will produce a positive effect to the performance of corporate applications and improve the level of fault tolerance and operation reliability of the system itself.

Modernization works on CDTN kernel were started in May 2006 and will take about 9 months. An operation testing and a subsequent setting for specific requirements of Rostelecom will be performed during this period. Commercial operation on the Company’s scale will start at the end of 2006.

Decision to modernize the corporate network kernel that builds the central CDTN nodes in Moscow and in each branch office, was taken in order to improve the performance level and operation reliability of the telecommunications infrastructure of the Company and to ensure the higher operation level for Rostelecom’s information systems.

According to IT Department Director, Mr. Andrey Baclykov, “Modernization of internal data transmission network will ensure the essential improvement of operation effectiveness of the branch offices with the existing corporate information systems and with the systems planned for implementation. Modernization of the corporate data transmission network takes on special significance in light of increasing demands of organization units and branch offices of Rostelecom for exchange of considerable information contents due to the active development of the Company’s business.”
