Primorsk Shipping Corporation together with the largest shipping company “Rieber Shipping AS” has begun building of the specialized icebreaking tug at the Romanian Shipyard. Hull of the vessel will be made by Romanian shipbuilders, finishing works, installation of equipment will be made by Norwegians at the Shipyard “Aker Langsten AS”. The tug will be operated under Russian flag, it will be managed by joint Russian-Norwegian venture, registered in Sakhalin, where PRISCO has its representative office. As it has been already reported earlier, in 2004 Primorsk Shipping Corporation and Rieber Shipping AS signed long-term Contract for chartering of icebreaking tug with Exxon Neftegas Limited - Operator of Sakhalin-I Project. Contract period is 15 years with prolongation possibility, effective date – September 2006. The tug will provide ice services to large tankers of 100,000 t dwt. and mooring of vessels to Oil Terminal in De-Kastri port. Metal was cut at the Romanian Shipyard on January 13, 2005. Name of the tug will be “Polar Pevek”. First part of the name is traditional for vessels of Rieber Shipping, it shows their specific character – work in polar waters. Name Pevek will be given in honour of famous PRISCO tanker which took part in many Arctic expeditions and “fiery Vietnamese voyages”.
