Vitali Raspopov, Director of Safety and Quality Department of the Primorsk Shipping Corporation reported m/t “Svobodny” on its way back from Kamchatka to Nakhodka in the Japanese sea saved Russian emergency boat PK-1401 with three persons aboard. On December 24, 2004 at 16:50 (local time) crew of Valeri Yanovich noticed drifting boat which was asking SOS. M/t “Svobodny” could not take people aboard because of rough, choppy sea and wind but it towed the boat to the Svetlaya Bay. On December 25, 2004 at 04:00 the boat was forwarded to the port authorities that promised to render all necessary help including medical to the crew of the boat. Then m/t “Svobodny” went to its home port for loading.
