IDGC of North-West consistently implements actions within the limits of the environmental policy accepted by the Company's Board of Directors. Last year's expenses for environment exceeded RUR 9 million.

According to Maria Luneva, the ecologist of the united company, last year the branches of IDGC of North-West implemented all the planned actions on preservation of the environment according to the Environmental Policy Realization Program.

First of all, the companies held ecological audit by forces of their own employees who have passed special trainings and received the corresponding certificates. Special control is performed over industrial inspection of quality of discharged waters, placement and recycling of production and consumption waste. 

In 2008 the branches of IDGC of North-West started preparation of the documentation for reception of the license for realization of activities on gathering, use, neutralization, transportation and placement of waste. It is planned to be completed this year. 

Besides, works on reconstruction of equipment and its replacement by modern, more ecologically safe one are carried out at the objects of the network complex of North-West region. Within the limits of the reconstruction program, the branches' energy facilities carry out replacement of oil switches by SF 6 circuitors and repair oil-filled devices.

In 2008, the industrial branch of the South-Karelian Electric Networks of “Karelenergo” branch held reconstruction of the existing oil production unit; “Arkhenergo” branch held a geo-ecological inspection of the territory of POL warehouse at Mezenskaya diesel power plant.
