"Nizhnekamskneftekhim" Inc is one of the biggest producers and exporters of petrochemical products in the Russian Federation. The company is located in the city of Nizhnekamsk (Republic of Tatarstan), which is on the left bank of the Kama river and 250 km of the Tatarstan capital - Kazan. Due to favorable geographical situation, NKNK has reliable thruways of the Kama and Volga rivers, as well as of the Rail to all regions of the Russian Federation and to the near and far countries. The Company launched its first production in 1967. Today, the production complex of NKNK embodies 10 major plants, seven divisions (goods and feedstock, ethylene pipeline systems and so forth), several research and development centers, 15 general purpose subdivisions. The range of product output includes a hundred items. A number of the employed is more than 20 thousand. The Company is town-forming for the city of Nizhnekamsk. The production backbone of NKNK are large-capacity plants yielding: · Monomers as feedstock to produce rubber · General and specialty purpose synthetic rubber · Basic chemicals - ethylene, propylene, benzene, butadiene and their derivatives - styrene, linear alpha-olefins, ethylene glycols, surfactants and so on. With such marketed products like linear alpha-olefins, propylene oxide, polyethers, monoethylene glycol (MEG), styrene, as well as a range of synthetic rubber - isoprene, butyl, ethylene-propylene (EPDM) types, NKNK is the only or dominating producer in CIS. At present, NKNK is launching production of butadiene rubber on cobalt support (SKD-K grade) basing on the-state-of-the-art technological process. Up-to-date processes and production of halobutyl rubber (chlorbutyl- and brombutyl-based), which is widely used in the modern tyre industry to produce tubeless tires, are being established. Nowadays, Russian consumers have to buy halobutyl rubber abroad. In summer 2001, NKNK signed a number of Contracts with overseas companies to build new polymer plants in Nizhnekamsk to produce polystyrene and polypropylene. At the same time, there is being implemented enhancement of capacities for ethylene (up to 600 000 TPA), isoprene by one-stage synthesis, divinyl, polyethers. NKNK is also actively sharing construction of the Nizhnekamsk Refinery, the major products of which will be aviation kerosene, motor gasoline, as well as bitumen of diverse grades. The annual volume of the NKNK product output reached a record figure of over 19 billion rubles in the year 2000. The Company has its balance sheet profit significantly grown. The Government of the Republic of Tatarstan set the NKNK personnel a task to bring the output volume of marketed products to 2 billion dollars by 2005. As far back as in the Soviet Union, NKNK began extensive external economic activities. The Company's products are being exported to nearly a hundred countries worldwide including Europe, America, South-East Asia and Japan. To expand and deepen the external economic activities, there have been established and are successfully functioning five Joint Ventures, the partners of which are the companies of the USA, Germany, Czechia, Finland and a number of other countries. To advance its products (first of all synthetic rubber) to the countries of the West, NKNK has become a co-owner of "Nizhex Europe AG" company, the headquarters of which is in Switzerland and which will help to set a network of warehouses in Western Europe to store NKNK products for further selling without intermediaries. Thus, NKNK for the first time in its history moves out for direct supplies of its products abroad. Production and economic activities of NKNK for the last years have been positively appraised by the Russian Federation Official Authorities: in November 2000, NKNK was awarded the prize "The Russian National Olympus". Besides, NKNK won a quality award among the ten major companies of Russia, and it also takes part in that prestigious competition of the year 2001, the objective of which is to obtain an international quality certificate ISO-9002. Until now, such international quality certificate has been conferred upon a number of NKNK plants producing: - isoprene and butyl rubber - styrene, ethylene oxide - propylene oxide - mono- and diethyleneglycols - polyethers of diverse grades - ethyl cellosolve. A development strategy of the Company occupying a lead position in the oil, gas and chemical complex of Tatarstan, highly qualified personnel potentialities and powerful production potential shall constitute a guarantee for further successful performance of "Nizhnekamskneftekhim" Inc.
