NLMK has successfully passed the annual certification audit of its Environmental Management System for compliance with requirements of the universally recognized international standard ISO 14001-2004.
Auditors of TUV CERT (Germany) have examined NLMK’s business units, technical services, and current environmental management documentation and have confirmed that the Company fulfils its environmental protection commitments.
In accordance with the findings, NLMK’s environmental practices and implemented environmental programs have been positively evaluated.
For reference:
Over the past year and a half NLMK has implemented a number of major environmental projects including revamping the process water supply system (river water consumption and waste water discharge has been reduced by 2.5 times), reconstructing converter off-gas ducts with a secondary dedusting system, and revamping electrical precipitators for kilns in the refractory shop. The Company decommissioned 4 obsolete coke batteries with process equipment and part of a coal tar chemical processing cycle two years earlier than planned, which resulted in a 75% reduction of emissions from coke production facilities in Lipetsk.
The Company passed the first independent certification audit of its environment management system for compliance with international standard ISO-14001 in 2002.
