Novolipetsk Steel has revamped its hot strip mill. The upgrade will increase capacity by 195,000 tpa, improve the quality of hot-rolled products and ensure the safe and smooth operation of the equipment.
The revamp covered the cooling system for the metal and work rolls of the finishing train as well as the following control systems: main drives, screws, setup mechanisms and strip tensioning devices.
The project, whose total value amounted to RUR 1.1 bln, was implemented by the German suppliers SMS Demag and Transresch as part of Phase 2 of NLMK’s Technical Upgrade Program (2007-2011).
For reference:
NLMK’s hot strip mill is equipped with 2000 mm wide rolls and produces flats with a width of up to 1850 mm and a 1.45 mm to 16 mm thickness. The product mix ranges from low alloyed to high-strength grades, including carbon and electrical steel. The main consumers of hot-rolled coils and sheets are construction, shipbuilding and automotive companies, pipe producers, and in-house cold-rolled steel producers.
