AO MOSENERGO plans to save around 440 mn rubles in 2005 due to the introduction of power-saving technologies.
The company adopted the power-saving program for 2004–2010. Last year, AO MOSENERGO saved 17.5 mn kWh of electricity and around 60,000 Gcal of heat worth approximately 200 mn rubles. The program envisages a wide range of measures that are aimed at increasing the efficiency of the power equipment and implementation of new technologies.
For example, this year during the annual maintenance campaign, AO MOSENERGO plans to lay 17 km of pipes in polyurethane insulation that are more reliable and have longer operational life (around 30 years). This insulation helps to lengthen the operation and reduces heat losses to a minimal level. As of today, the total length of such pipes in AO MOSENERGO’s system is more than 100 km.
Under this program, the company also works to optimize operational modes of power stations in order to ensure fuller load of the equipment. Most AO MOSENERGO power stations are used to produce both electricity and heat. There are different consumers of these two types of energy. The heat is supplied to municipal services or plants, while the electricity is fed into the unified power system. Therefore, there is a possibility of situations when the demand for heat is high and the demand for electricity is low. Such lack of balance negatively impacts the power efficiency of stations. With this problem in mind, AO MOSENERGO experts are developing the system in which all electricity that is a by-product of heat production would be consumed for sure. This would make it possible to ensure fuller load for CHPs and use fuel more efficiently.
The total power saving due to the implementation of the program in 2004–10 would be 126.2 mn kWh of electricity and 309,000 Gcal of heat. This is the equivalent of a 4-month power supply for all Moscow apartments. There is no doubt that power saving positively influences consumers. The implementation of these measures will help to slow tariff increases and improve the quality of services for consumers in the Moscow region.
