December 4, 2002

AO MOSENERGO and ABB signed a cooperation agreement

On December 4, AO MOSENERGO and international company ABB, a world leader in power equipment and automation products, signed a general agreement on cooperation. The companies will jointly upgrade power equipment, rebuild power stations, develop control systems for heating and electricity grids, install high-voltage equipment, automation and electricity distribution equipment, etc. To coordinate the activities, the two companies set up a business cooperation council.

Both parties stressed their interest in expanding the longterm agreement aimed at implementing modern technologies and equipment in Russia. According to Arkady Yevstafyev, key provisions of the agreement with ABB meet strategic goals of AO MOSENERGO and provide for implementing the latest technologies and electricity generation, transmission and distribution equipment.

Yury Kozlov, president of ABB Russia, said: “This strategic alliance once again proves that ABB intends to stick to strategic partnerships in the Russian market. Our strategy here is to match the local production potential with the most up-to-date technologies and know-how of our concern.”

AO MOSENERGO and ABB started to cooperate back in the 1990s. The companies accumulated useful experience in a number of projects including those launched under the Program for Cooperation between AO MOSENERGO and ABB which was adopted in 1997. As a result of this successful cooperation AO MOSENERGO has introduced ABB’s modern equipment at many Moscow’s facilities: GTU TEZ Elektrostal, TEZ-27, TEZ-20, TEZ-22, TEZ-26, substations Zubovskaya, Sviblovo, Butyrskaya, Ochakovo, City.

ABB is a world leader in power industry and automation technologies. The introduction of these technologies helps to improve production capacity of power and industrial facilities and cut the negative impact on the environment. ABB operates in more than 100 countries and employs 150,000 employees.

ABB’s Russian representative office employs approximately one thousand specialists. The company operates nine plants in Russia which have their own production facilities. In 2001, the turnover of ABB’s Russian operations exceeded $120 mln.
