MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

December 6, 2002

AO MOSENERGO’s TEZ-17 has launched a new 32 MWt turbine

This year, AO MOSENERGO’s Stupinskaya TEZ became the only power station in Central Russia that launched a new turbine. The company spent more than 100 mln rubles to implement this project.

A PT-30 turbine manufactured by Leningrad Metals Plant (LMZ) was installed in place of equipment that has been used for 40 years. The installed capacity of the company has increased by 10 MWt. In addition, the company increased the reliability and powersaving at Stupinskaya TEZ as well as lowered fuel consumption. The new equipment is fully automated which makes it easier for TEZ personnel to control it. This also increases the efficiency of the equipment.

Assembly work started in May 2002 and was completed in strict accordance with deadlines. Before commissioning the equipment was fully tested.

The replacement of the turbine at TEZ-22 was carried out within the program for gradual re-equipment and upgrading of AO MOSENERGO’s facilities. The modernization has lately become crucial for Russian utilities. Power companies are in an acute need of investment in generation capacities. The reason lies in worn-out plant and equipment assets. In 2003-2005, general wear and tear may reach the critical level and result in disruptions of power supply to local consumers.

Currently, depreciation levels at AO MOSENERGO amount approximately to 50%. To prevent disruption and ensure power supply stability, the company strives to implement the modernization program. Despite the lack of budgetary finances, AO MOSENERGO annually allocates large amounts of money to upgrade power facilities. Therefore, the replacement of the turbine became a significant event for the Moscow region. The new turbine will help to implement the stable power supply in the winter time and future load peak periods.
