Moscow City Telephone

August 13, 2003

On 13 August 2003, Public Joint Stock Company Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS) put the first sixth-million-zone automatic telephone exchange (ATE) into operation

ATE-658, based on EWSD system of Siemens make, will provide services to the "Maryinskiy Park" housing subdistrict ("Mary's Park", Eng.) (located within the MGTS' Lyublinskiy Telephone Node coverage area). The capacity of the newly activated automatic telephone exchange is 10 000 numbers.

The "Maryinskiy Park" housing subdistrict is recognized by the Moscow Government a priority capital-city development infrastructure. This locality is in the lead in terms of the number of the apartment telephone installation requests filed by its residents. In order to reduce the phone installation waiting time, the MGTS leadership decided to assign to the new telephone exchange a numbering index in the sixth-million zone, which was previously viewed as a redundant (or, rather, standby) facility.

Pursuant to the project, in order to have ATE-658 activated, telephone cable ducts as well as backbone and distribution networks were constructed.

The ATE-658 numbering capacity will be fully utilized to furnish the "Maryinskiy Park" subdistrict inhabitants with telephone communication.

The apartment telephones will be provided to the Muscovites that have the right to telephone installation on an out-of-turn or top-priority basis regardless of the dates of their submitting applications to the Lyublinskiy Telephone Node, and to the subdistrict inhabitants that filed their applications up to and inclusive 30 June 2002.

The installation of the apartment telephones starting digits "658" will be made during the third and fourth quarters of 2003.
