May 15, 2008, Moscow. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems JSC (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the largest operator of integrated telecommunication services in Russia and the CIS announced that “RTC-Orenburg”, an affiliate of OJSC "Regional Technical Center” (“RTC”), a member of COMSTAR-UTS Group of companies, is to accomplish a project for network capacity increase to accommodate for Internet broadband access service in Orenburg region. The project envisages network capacity increase from 450 to 1950 ADSL ports to be carried out by the Company affiliate to launch Internet broadband access service in the city of Buguruslan and Pervomaisky settlement.
Earlier this year, January 2008, "RTC-Orenburg" built a network to provide data exchange and telematic services on a commercial basis in the cities of Orenburg, Buzuluk, and Sorochinsk in Orenburg region. Network capacity then was 450 ADSL ports and 124 Ethernet ports. ADSL2+ and Ethernet based Internet broadband access service was launched in Orenburg region in February 2008. Earlier COMSTAR-UTS did not provide this type of service in the region.
“When broadband access service became commercially available we realized the demand for this service is enormous, so we took decision to increase network capacity in order to provide this service for all”, said Dmitry Nikiforov, Director of "RTC-Orenburg", an affiliate of OJSC "RTC". “We plan further growth of data network in the nearest future, with subsequent launch of IP VPN service, deployment of game and reference data servers to provide our users with value-added informative and entertainment services", Dmitry Nikiforov added.
