KamAZ

April 12, 2004

European standards

In April, in accordance with a program of development of new power units that has earlier been adopted by KAMAZ Inc., a new generation of TKP-7C turbochargers was launched into mass production at “Turbodiesel” company, a subsidiary of KAMAZ Inc.

Technical characteristics of the new turbocharger are very similar to western-manufactured analogues. KAMAZ-Diesel and R&D engineers have been developing this new product for the last five years. Each component of it has been designed to meet increased quality requirements and accuracy while assembling. As a result, the new product is increasing engine capacity by another 10%.

Mass production of the new turbochargers is quite important for the Company, as it has adopted a program of powering KAMAZ trucks with Euro-2 engines. Before, when it was necessary to meet international standards, power units were equipped with imported quite expensive turbochargers.

From now on, new power units will be assembled at “Turbodiesel” and it is important that cost of TKP-7C KAMAZ turbocharger is three times as cheap as of its imported western manufactured analogue. This has become possible mainly due to acquiring of the most advanced and sophisticated equipment, CNC machines, and flexible transfer lines with computerized control systems, which apart from many other advantages, also ensure significant labor cost reduction. .

The first test batch of TKP-7C was assembled last year. It has already past bench tests in R&D of KAMAZ Inc. Last year the company assembled about 100-200 units per month.

However, apart from domestic turbochargers there still will be available also imported versions to meet possible demands of customers, who should always have a choice.
