December 23, 2008. CJSC Moldavskaya GRES, a subsidiary of OJSC INTER RAO UES, and the Moldovan state-owned company Energocom have entered into a contract for large-scale supply of electric power to Moldova. OJSC INTER RAO UES will supply electric power at a rate of about 250 mln kWh per month, which matches the Republic's entire consumption of electric power apart from the electric power generated by local cogeneration plants.

The contract is signed and coordinated by the National Agency for Energy Regulation of the Republic of Moldova. It provides for deliveries to be made from January 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010, with transmission of electric power to be provided by Moldova's state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica.

According to the parties to the agreement, it will make it possible to ensure Moldova's energy security and improve the reliability of the national grid's performance.

The parties also believe that an important benefit of the document signed is the deepening of positive interaction in electric power between the INTER RAO UES Group and the Republic of Moldova. Such cooperation calls not only for solutions to meet the Moldovan consumers' total requirement for electric power, but also for joint action to build up the export potential of CJSC Moldavskaya GRES and enable its entry into the European markets of electric power. As was reported earlier, on November 14, 2007 as part of the visit by V.V.Putin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, to the Republic of Moldova, OJSC INTER RAO UES and Moldelectrica signed an Agreement for the implementation of the project to allocate power-generating units of Moldavskaya GRES for radial operation with the energy grid of Romania.

CJSC Moldavskaya GRES is a subsidiary of OJSC INTER RAO UES. The installed capacity of the power station is 2 520MW. In terms of total installed capacity, the station is a major asset of the INTER RAO UES Group and a key power generation asset in Europe. It burns gas and coal. No electric power generated by Moldavskaya GRES has been supplied to Moldova since the autumn of 2005.
