Turkey's TGR Enerji to import power from Russia

December 29, 2008. TGR Enerji, a Turkey-based subsidiary of OJSC INTER RAO UES, has been given green light to import electric power from the Russian Federation via Georgia. The decision to approve imports was taken December 24 at the session of the Energy Market Regulation Committee of the Republic of Turkey in response to a request filed by the company.

To implement the decision taken, the Energy Market Regulation Committee introduced an amendment into TGR Enerji's license for wholesale trading in electric power. The amendment is valid for one year.

Electric power will be imported from the Russian Federation into Turkey via the territory of Georgia using the arrangements for the supply of an isolated district through the existing power line Substation Batumi (Georgia) – Substation Hopa (Turkey) when the line is not used for the export of Turkey's electric power to Georgia. The quantities of electric power to be imported will be set forth in separate agreements.

TGR Enerji became part of the INTER RAO UES Group in 2005. Soon thereafter, TGR Enerji acquired a license for the wholesale trading in electric power in Turkey. The company employees work on projects to expand INTER RAO UES business in the Black Sea area.
