December 31, 2008. On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Management Board of OJSC INTER RAO UES and Georgia’s Minister of Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding effective operation of the Inguri Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP).
The parties have in particular agreed to prepare a program for requisite steps to be taken in this area. According to the document signed, the said program should be developed for at least ten years.
The Russian company has conducted a series of preliminary negotiations with executives from the Georgian and Abkhazian energy sector.
The document, which was signed in Tbilisi, Georgia, is viewed by the participants in the process as a serious success, given the particular importance of the Inguri HPP in power supplies to the entire region of the Caucasus and southern parts of the Russian Federation.
