On personnel appointments

Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman has named Roman Samsonov as General Director of VNIIGAZ Ltd.

Born in 1961 in the city of Sverdlovsk, Roman Samsonov graduated in 1983 from the Grozny Oil Institute, getting specialty in the Oil and Gas Upstream Machinery. Additional education: Wolfson and Pembroke Colleges (Cambridge, the Great Britain), Rolls-Royce Training Center (New Castle, the Great Britain), National Economy Academy under the RF Government. R. Samsonov holds a PhD degree.

In 1988, R. Samsonov completed post-graduate studies in VNIIGAZ. Between 1988 and 2001, he held various posts in VNIIGAZ, namely acted as First Deputy Director General of VNIIGAZ International. In 2001, R. Samsonov served as Head of the Production Technical Section and afterwards as Executive Director of Siberian Internet Company. Over 2003 to 2004, he worked as Adviser to the President of Antel Group Ltd. Before joining VNIIGAZ, R. Samsonov was Managing Consultant with IBM East Europe/Asia Ltd.

Rudolf Ter-Sarkisov, previously serving as VNIIGAZ’s Director General, left office under a staff retirement plan.

Founded in 1948, VNIIGAZ Ltd is Gazprom’s major research & development, technology & engineering center involved in the resource base development, gas & condensate production, transmission and processing as well as in the gas industry environmental and industrial safety promotion.

In 2001, the Institute was awarded the status of a research center. At present, VNIIGAZ employs over 1,500 highly qualified specialists (50 Dr. and 250 PhD. degree holders inclusive), houses the only Post-Graduate Studies School in the gas industry and has two Dissertation Councils within the RF Education Ministry’s Higher Certification Commission.
