Sochihosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Algirdas Butkevicius, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania.
The parties addressed a wide range of issues regarding the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including near-and mid-term gas supplies from Russia to Lithuania, as well as the reliability of Russian natural gas transit across Lithuania.
Background
Natural gas is exported to the Republic of Lithuania under long-term agreements effective through to 2015. According to preliminary data, Gazprom supplied 2.7 billion cubic meters of gas to Lithuania in 2013.
Pursuant to Lithuania's Law on Natural Gas as well as Law on the Implementation of the Law on Natural Gas adopted in connection with the Third Energy Package, from August 01, 2013 Lietuvos Dujos was divided in two companies by activity types: trading and transportation.
From August 01, 2013 the property, rights and obligations executed under the current agreement regarding gas transportation were transferred to Amber Grid.
