Beregovaya compressor station inaugurated

Today the Gelendzhik district of the Krasnodar area has hosted the inauguration of the first phase of the Blue Stream gas pipeline-based Beregovaya compressor station, which includes three gas pumping units and two turbo generators.

The ceremony was attended by JSC Gazprom’s delegation led by Bogdan Budzulyak, Gazprom’s Management Committee Member and Head of the Company’s Gas Transportation, Underground Storage and Utilization Department, ENI’s delegation, representatives of the Krasnodar area’s authorities, Russian-Italian joint venture Blue Stream Pipeline Company B.V. (BSPC) and building companies.

“Bringing Beregovaya into operation not only establishes technical conditions for more gas deliveries by the Blue Stream gas pipeline but also enriches the Russian gas industry workers with the valuable experience of offshore gas transmission infrastructure operation. Additionally, the move will help provide a high level of reliability for the operation of the North-European gas pipeline the construction of which will be initiated this year already,” stated Bogdan Budzulyak.

Reference:

The Beregovaya compressor station is part of the Blue Stream gas line offshore section and is owned by BSPC founded on a par by Gazprom and ENI.

Located on the Black Sea coast near the Arkhipo-Osipovka settlement, Beregovaya has the 150 MW design capacity allowing the station to generate the 250 Ata gas pressure.

Beregovaya is a unique technical facility erected through the use of the most advanced technologies, with a high level of production process automation.

While in the usual practice of gas main construction transmission compressor stations are located within a 80-120 km range from each other, Beregovaya will deliver gas about 400 km by Blue Stream’s offshore section.

Beregovaya’s first phase capacities will help fully provide contractual gas supply amount to Turkey. When the total ramp-up is reached, the station will have six gas pumping units and three turbo generators.

Blue Stream and Beregovaya inclusive have an integrated system of production and environmental monitoring operational, with two stationary posts round-the-clock measuring ecological parameters of air and transmitting reports to a central post of production and environmental monitoring and a mobile lab regularly measuring the quality of water and air in the vicinity of the compressor station.

Beregovaya’s construction was initiated in August 2001. Before its first phase launch, gas was transmitted via the pipeline by the Krasnodarskaya and Stavropolskaya compressor stations commissioned earlier.

Blue Stream is a gas main designed for direct gas deliveries of Russian gas to Turkey under the Black Sea. The total length of its on- and offshore sections accounts for 1,213 km. The line construction was completed in December 2002 and first gas was transmitted in February 2003.

Over 2004, Blue Stream supplied Turkish consumers with 3.2 bcm of gas and some 4.5 bcm is slated for this year.

A total of more than 8.4 bcm has been supplied to Turkey since the pipeline launch.
