Today, within the visit of Gazprom’s delegation to Italy, Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee has met with Umberto Quadrino, Chief Executive Officer of Edison.

The meeting discussed the prospects for cooperation in the gas & power generation sectors of Italy and other countries including France and the Great Britain. Said issue is becoming particularly topical in the light of Edison and Electricite de France integrating their gas and electricity businesses.

The parties looked into ways of expanding their joint company Volta’s activities given ongoing liberalization of the Italian gas market, expansion of the TAG pipeline as well as possible supply of Russian gas to Italy via a southern route, with the use of the Blue Stream pipeline.

The participants pointed to an increasing role of Russian gas in meeting soaring gas demand of Italy and other West European countries.
