Meeting on turboexpander power plants construction held

Alexander Ananenkov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee conducted at the Gazprom Headquarters a meeting on the construction of turboexpander power plants (TEPPs) at Gazprom’s facilities in the Volgograd Oblast (Volgogradtransgaz).

The meeting was attended by the heads and specialists of Gazprom’s core business units and subsidiaries, Mikhail Ivanov, Deputy Head of the Fuel and Energy Department with the Volgograd Oblast Administration, Igor Arestov, Director General of the Center for Social and Economic Programs.

The participants discussed issues surrounding the construction of three 10.5 MW TEPPs at gas distribution stations in the Volgograd Oblast. It was mentioned that not only would the application of TEPPs provide for the increase of power generation in the region but it would also contribute to the reduction of Gazprom’s energy supply costs.

The meeting also addressed the organizational and legal aspects of establishing a special purpose company with a view to implementing the project under project financing terms.

At the end of the meeting the participants made a concerted decision enabling to accelerate the project implementation with the use of project financing methods.

Reference:

Gas turbine generators operating at a differential pressure and converting compressed gas energy to electricity are called turboexpander power plants (TEPPs).

Turboexpanders are mainly applied where the surplus gas pressure (compressed gas energy is a by-product and should be somehow reduced for further use. Since TEPPs operate without fuel consumption, the resulting power is ecologically clean and the power generation technology is energy-saving.
