On Alexander Ananenkov’s working meeting with Zhang Zhongwei

Gazprom’s Headquarters has hosted today a working meeting between Alexander Ananenkov, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee and Zhang Zhongwei, Governor of the Sichuan Province (China).

Alexander Ananenkov informed Zhang Zhongwei of deeper cooperation between Gazprom and Chinese companies, including of the progress in the Agreement on Strategic Cooperation between Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

Zhang Zhongwei announced his support to expanded interaction between Gazprom and Chinese counterparts in the Sichuan Province, including in the gas field exploration & development, underground gas storage and gas use as motor fuel sectors.

Historically a crucial political and economic centre of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Sichuan Republic is located in southwestern China, occupying the territory of 569,000 km?. The Province is China’s third-and eighth-largest as for the population (95 mln people) and gross domestic product ($66 bln), respectively.

In 2004, the Sichuan Basin first recorded the 10 bcm/y gas production (25% of overall home extraction) and saw the discovery of its largest natural gas field Puguang having 114 bcm in geological reserves. Among other prominent Sichuan fields are Luojiazhai, Wubaidi, Xinchang, Weiyuan and Mosi, with 58, 59, 58, 40 and 37 bcm in geological reserves, respectively.

Being the largest 100%-state-owned oil and gas business in the country, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is a leading integrated oil and gas company of the world.

Gazprom and CNPC signed the Agreement on Strategic Cooperation on 14 October 2004 in Beijing within the official visit of the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin to the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
