Gazprom overfulfils daily gas production and withdrawal from UGS facilities plans

Over the late January to early February cold snaps, Gazprom managed to provide Russian and foreign consumers with secure natural gas deliveries due to high levels of gas extraction from fields and withdrawal from underground gas storage (UGS) facilities.

Within said period, the daily average production and withdrawal rates stably exceeded the target by 30-35 and 120-130 mln cu m, respectively, with a record high 493.9 mln cu m of aggregate daily and a total of 535.8 mln cu m in maximum daily gas withdrawals achieved during certain hours and days, respectively.

Reference:

Gazprom counts on a manifold network of UGS facilities that includes 24 gas storage units built in aquifers and on depleted gas & condensate fields.

The UGS network allows Gazprom both to shave seasonal gas consumption disproportions and provide separate Russian constituents with winter-time gas supplies from UGS facilities only.

Gazprom is intent on increasing the capacity of UGS facilities by upgrading and expanding the existing UGS network as well as constructing new gas storage facilities.

The annual dynamics of commercial gas reserve growth throughout the RF UGS facilities is presented below:

  • 1998 – 45 bcm;
  • 2003 – 62 bcm;
  • 2010 (forecast) – 82 bcm.

Before 2010, the daily peak capacity of the RF UGS facilities is planned to reach 700 mln cu m.

Gazprom’s gas extraction accounted for:

  • 540.2 bcm (against the 531.7-bcm target) in 2003;
  • 545.1 bcm (542 bcm) in 2004;
  • Gazprom’s 2005 production target is fixed at 547 bcm.

The January and February targets for gas extraction and withdrawals from UGS facilities accounted for 1.611 & 1.608 bcm/d and 371 & 340 mln cu m/d, respectively.
