GAZPROM

March 22, 2005

On Alexey Miller and Thierry Desmarest’s working meeting

Gazprom’s Headquarters today hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman and Thierry Desmarest, President of the Total Group.

The meeting addressed the possibilities of developing the Shtockman gas condensate field, producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and shipping it to the USA.

At the same time, the meeting dealt with potential implementation of joint projects on gas production in third countries, with the Near East and North Africa to possibly become the most promising locations.

The parties highly appreciated the technical condition of existing infrastructure, technological process and construction quality and efficiency achieved by the International Consortium during stages 2 and 3 of the Persian Gulf-located South Pars field development.

Ultimately, the parties discussed the outlook of bilateral cooperation in exploring and developing new hard-to-reach oil and gas fields in Russia.

The fourth world’s largest energy company, the Total Group operates in over 130 countries and is involved in the entire spectrum of oil and gas business, from production to market to end-use customers.

In 2004, Total extracted 140 mln toe. The company’s proved hydrocarbon reserves account for 1.5 bcm toe, with the North Sea, Africa, the Near East, South-East Asia and North & South America being its largest production provinces.

Total is also engaged in natural gas transmission and storage as well as electricity generation through the operation of gas-fired combined heat and power plants and application of renewables. The company’s activities also include natural gas, electricity, LNG, LPG and coal fuel marketing.

The Shtockman gas condensate field is located in the central Barents Sea. The field reserves are valued at 3.2 tcm of gas and 31 mln t of condensate. The field is currently being geared up for development, with LNG to be later on marketed in the USA and other countries.

Stages 2 and 3 of the Persian Gulf-located South Pars field were initiated in 1997 by the International Consortium comprised of Total (France) – 40%, Petronas (Malaysia) – 30% and Gazprom – 30%. The Consortium was involved in the construction of the starting complex including two offshore platforms with ten production wells each, two 100-km-long underwater gas pipelines and a 20 bcm/y onshore gas plant in Assalouyeh.
