Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Sergey Sobyanin, Acting Mayor of Moscow signed today in Moscow an Agreement on wider use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel.
According to the document, the parties will implement a set of measures aimed at increasing the use of gas as a vehicle fuel in Moscow, primarily for powering public passenger and utility vehicles. In particular, the measures provide for expanding the natural gas vehicles fleet, constructing CNG stations and multi-fuel filling complexes, vehicle conversion and maintenance centers as well as other NGV infrastructure facilities.
Gazprom and the Moscow Government will interact in the following main areas: implementing investment projects for upgrading and building NGV infrastructure, providing the city's vehicle companies with the relevant equipment for NGV operation purposes, training the engineering & technical staff and drivers. Land plots for new facilities will be allotted by the Moscow Government in accordance with the urban development policy.
The Agreement pays special attention to preparing and adopting legal acts aimed at promoting the NGV fuel use.
“For Moscow, Russia's largest metropolis, the extensive use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel is of special significance. Gas-powered municipal vehicles will help keep down transport fares and make air cleaner in the capital. All this will contribute directly to improving the quality of life of every Moscow citizen,” said Alexey Miller.
