Meeting on high energy efficiency demonstration zone held

Today, the town of Kalyazin (Tver region) has hosted a meeting dedicated to the construction of the Uglich – Kalyazin gas pipeline and establishment of a high energy efficiency demonstration zone.

Attending the meeting were Bogdan Budzulyak, Member of Gazprom’s Management Committee & Head of Gazprom’s Gas Transportation, Underground Storage and Utilization Department, Valery Golubev, Member of Gazprom’s Management Committee & Head of Gazprom’s Investment and Construction Department, Dmitry Zelenin, Governor of the Tver region, Valery Yazev, Chairman of the State Duma’s Energy, Transportation and Communications Committee & President of Russian Gas Society, heads of Gazprom’s subsidiaries and representatives of E.ON Ruhrgas.

The parties underscored that the current year was scheduled to see the completion of the Uglich – Kalyazin line that would carry gas to Kalyazin and a number districts in the Yaroslavl and Tver regions.

Bringing the line into operation will mark the first stage in establishing the high energy efficiency demonstration zone and will allow to apply a natural gas-fired CHP plant within the Central Boiler of Kalyazin, with a string of innovative gas distribution & utilization facilities to follow. Kalyazin is also planned to see the development of an efficient gas use model to be applied in other Russian towns.

The Tver region’s authorities and Promgaz were tasked with developing a business plan for the project implementation, subject to endorsement by Gazprom.

Reference:

The 80.4-km-long Uglich – Kalyazin gas pipeline runs through the Yaroslavl and Tver regions and has a 377 mm diameter, 35 Ata pressure and 220 mln cu m/y throughput.

The Project on a high energy efficiency demonstration zone in the town of Kalyazin of the Tver region was initiated jointly with E.ON Ruhrgas in October 2000 within the June 2000 Memorandum of understanding sealed by Gazprom and E.ON Ruhrgas.

The Project is targeted at showcasing advantages of state-of-the-art gas consumption technologies and assessing the rate of return on investments into the development of high energy efficiency zones.
