JSC Salavatnefteorgsitez launched new production of ethyl-benzene-styrene

An official ceremony took place today in Salavat (Bashkortostan) on the occasion of launching new production of ethyl-benzene-styrene in Salavatnefteorgsintez – a joint stock company under the trust management of Gazprom.

The ceremony was attended by Alexander Ryazanov, the Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom, the Chairman of the Directors’ Board of JSC Salavatnefteorgsintez, by Murtaza Rakhimov, the President of Bashkortostan, and Rafael Baidavletov, the Prime-Minister of Bashkortostan.

New production of ethyl-benzene-styrene (EBS) is arranged on the basis of modern technologies meeting world standards. The project production capacity of new facility will amount to 230 thousand tons of ethyl-benzene and 200 thousand tons of styrene per year. For the purpose of commodities collection, storage and distribution a tank farm was built with the total volume of 3.8 thousand cubic meters.

Commissioning of the new EBS production facilities will significantly improve the environmental situation in the vicinity of Salavat. Annual sewage discharge from production facilities will be decreased 3.5 times, hydrogen sulfide emissions will be eliminated completely, wastes volume will be cut by 11 thousand tons per year due to wastes utilization as raw material and fuel.

“Salavatnefteorgsintez is one of the key enterprises of the Russian petrochemical industry, and commissioning of the new EBS production facility will enable the company to gain additional competitiveness and enlarge its export capability”, - said Alexander Ryazanov in his speech of welcome.

JSC Salavatnefteorgsintez was set up in 1948 (known as a group of petrochemical enterprises No. 18 until 1993). The town of Salavat was built simultaneously with the enterprise construction.

The State Committee on the management of the Bashkortostan property was the founder of JSC Salavatnefteorgsintez; the Committee holds 53.92% of ordinary voting stock of the company that were handed over, under the Agreement dated 21.03.2003, to trust management of Gazprom.

The core business of Salavatnefteorgsintes include production and realization of oil refining products, petrochemicals and fertilizers. The list of the commodities produced by the company consists of over 70 items. It comprises gasoline, diesel oils, kerosenes, black oils, toluene, liquefied gases, butyl spirits, ammonia, carbamide, polyethylene, polystyrene, sulfur, a wide scope of plastic consumer goods, etc.
