E.ON Ruhrgas AG is Gazprom’s largest foreign shareholder with a 6.5 per cent stake.

The basis for cooperation between Gazprom and E.ON Ruhrgas was laid in the early 1970s. Ruhrgas became one of the first prominent buyers of Russian gas in Western Europe.

In July 2004, Gazprom and E.ON inked the Memorandum of Understanding fixing the agreements to further deepen cooperation in the area of strategic projects. In addition to the traditional gas supply business, the parties started implementing joint gas extraction, transmission, marketing and power generation projects.

Gazprom and Siemens have been cooperating since 1993. The basic projects have been implemented in the area of telecommunications and technology process automation. In particular, the companies created a Moscow digital communication zone and data transmission network – Gazsvyaz, an automatic telephone exchange network – Kaspiygazprom and a communication network – Gaztelecom as well as automated a comprehensive gas treatment unit at the Yamburgskoye field.

On April 3, 2008, Gazprom and Siemens AG entered into a Strategic Partnership Agreement identifying the main directions of interaction between the parties in the oil and gas sector.
