During the visit, the Lithuanian delegation visited Truck Production Facility, familiarized itself with the results of JSC GAZ production system introduction. Mr. Rimantas Shidlauskas highly appreciated the improvements made at one of the largest plants of the country in respect to industrial engineering, increase of products quality, modernization of the model range.
GAZ distributors - representatives of the company "Automobile Business-Centre", assembling GAZ vehicles in Lithuania and marketing them to the Baltic countries and Eastern European countries, were also part of the delegation.
In 2000, an assembly facility specializing in GAZelle drop side and van vehicles was set up in the Lithuanian city of Rokishkis. The joint project was developing and soon GAZ vehicles were fitted with diesel engines Andoria-4CT90 (Poland) meeting the Euro-3 requirements. Consequently, this enabled export expansion of GAZ vehicles from Lithuania into the Eastern European Countries: Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. First sample deliveries of GAZelle vehicles to Italy have started recently.
In October 2004, the Rokishkis assembly facility produced a thousandth GAZelle vehicle.
During the discussions with the "Automobile Business-Centre" representatives headed by Mr. Georg Kotomin, President, balance of the activities was summed up and prospects for 2005 were outlined. Agreements on further development of the production in Lithuania and modernization of GAZ vehicles for supply not only to Europe but also to other countries with advanced ecological safety requirements were reached.
