February 4, 2003

Corporate website of Bureyskaya HPP open

Moscow, 4 February. The official website of OAO "Bureyskaya HPP" has been opened today at www.bureya.ru. The website contains information on the power plantís history, calendar of major events, and the Company's current business activities and prospects. Special attention is given to supplying the Company's shareholders and investors with comprehensive information.

Bureyskaya HPP has been the largest hydroelectric construction project in Russia over the past 15 years.

The plant's first hydroelectric unit is scheduled to be commissioned on 30 June 2003. The HPP construction is to be completed in 2009. The plant's installed capacity will amount to 2,000 mW, with the average annual output of 7,100 million kWh.

The operation of Bureyskaya HPP at full capacity will help resolve the following issues:

  • ensure energy supply to the areas of the Far East of Russia which currently experience electricity shortage;
  • increase reliability of energy supply and ensure even load on the Integrated Energy System (IES) of the East;
  • reduce the amount of fossil fuel that has to be transported to the area by several million tons annually;
  • prevent floods in the flood plains of the Bureya river and the Middle Amur river.

The commissioning of generating units at Bureyskaya HPP is especially important in connection with the increase in energy consumption in the IES of the East which started in the spring of 1999.
