Power plants of RAO UES Holding generate 55.5 TWh of electricity in October 2003

Moscow. 4 November. According to the reports, the power plants of the RAO "UES of Russia" Holding generated 55.5 TWh in October 2003, practically no change from the same period last year.

The thermal power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 45,7 TWh of electricity, down 3.4% year on year, whereas the hydroelectric power plants produced 9.8 TWh, an increase of 16.7% from September 2002. This was due to increased water inflow in the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama chain of hydroelectric plants (11% higher than the average annual figure) and the Sayano-Shushenskoe reservoir (29% higher than the average). At the same time, the water level in the reservoirs of the Angara-Yenissey chain of HPPs was 5% below the average annual.

At the same time, in October, the electricity consumption in the Russian Federation was 76.6 TWh, or 700 million kWh (0.9%) below the anticipated level, which is practically the same as in October 2002.

Because the outdoor temperature in October 2003 was 2.7°C above the average annual norm throughout Russia, the heat supply to consumers of RAO "UES of Russia" amounted to 35.2 million Gcal, down 7.2 million Gcal in year-on-year terms. However, the entities of RAO "UES of Russia" are prepared for an increased load both in terms of technical condition of the facilities and the fuel inventories. In October, the total coal supply to RAO UES power plants made 9.92 million tons. At the same time, coal consumption during the month was 1.686 million tons (or 15%) below the target, whereas fuel oil consumption was 0.22 million tons (or 36.9%) below the anticipated level. As of 1 November, the coal inventories at the thermal power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" were 23.158 million tons (119.8% of the target figure) and the fuel oil inventories were 3.289 million tons (111.6%).

The implementation of RAO UES repair & maintenance program is coming along according to schedule and, in some regions, ahead of schedule. As of 1 November, complete or intermediate overhaul has been completed at 77 generating units with an aggregate capacity of 19,773 MW (102% of the calendar plan).
