Moscow, 14 March 2005. RAO "UES of Russia" considers the ruling by the Chisinau Court to prolong the detention of Valeriu Pasat, Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia", for another ten days to be unreasonable. Valeriu Pasat did not hide from the Moldovan law enforcement agencies, he regularly visited Chisinau on business and family matters. The Moldovan law enforcers had plenty of opportunity to use other civilized forms of procedural and investigative actions in respect of Valeriu Pasat other than holding him in custody in such a demonstrative manner. Leaving the courtroom today, Valeriu Pasat called the actions against him a "political contract hit", which causes serious concerns and raises doubts about the charges brought against him. Moreover, in 1997 – 2002, the sale of MIG-29 jets by Moldova was examined by different authorities, and Valeriu Pasat was never named as a defendant. We cannot but link the actions taken by the Moldovan law enforcement bodies against our employee with the political situation in the Republic. We at RAO "UES of Russia" confirm our intention to seek the release of Mr. Pasat in conjunction with the state authorities of the Russian Federation.
