Moscow. 8 October 2007. Today, RAO "UES of Russia" held a presentation of the book "Modern Environment Conservation Technologies in the Electricity Industry". The book was published as part of the implementation of the RAO UES environmental policy.
The presentation was attended by representatives of RAO UES subsidiaries and energy R&D entities. The speakers praised the publication, saying that it was a timely and important book.
The Russian Federation State Duma is now considering the draft Federal Law On Payments for Negative Impact on the Environment", which will define the principle of setting the limit values for negative environmental impact based on the best available techniques. The law is designed to lay down the principle of setting the limit values to facilitate implementation of the best available techniques. Enterprises which implement such techniques are expected to be exempted from payments for negative environmental impact for a period of 3 to 5 years. Also, the State Duma is considering the possibility of offsetting such payments against the expenses relating to the implementation of the best available techniques.
The book will inform the energy companies of RAO "UES of Russia" on the existing environmental protection technologies and enable them to make the right choice in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment. The speakers also stressed that it would be advisable to create an online version of the book and update it on a regular basis.
