RAO UESR experts to participate in the 11th Conference of Parties of Kyoto Protocol

Moscow. 28 November 2005. RAO UESR experts, headed by the General Director of Energy Carbon Fund* Andrey Gorkov, will participate as a part of e7** Delegation in the 11th Conference of Parties of Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This event will take place in Montreal, Canada from November 28th - December 9th, 2005. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme body of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Its 11-th session becomes the first one after Kyoto protocol coming into effect.

The agenda of session, in particular, includes the questions connected with approval of Marrakesh agreements, regulating mechanisms of Kyoto Protocol, and procedures of the control of fulfillment of Kyoto protocol requirements by the countries-participants.

Within the framework of the COP session there will be held e7 open forum "Private-Public partnership: e7's contribution to sustainable development". During this event representatives of the e7, an association of some of the world's biggest utilities, along with a few of the e7's partners - both from the United Nations and from national governments - will discuss issues related to the e7's objectives: promoting sustainable energy development, protecting the environment and mitigating climate change.

* Energy Carbon Fund was established in 2001 by order of RAO UESR CEO Anatoly Chubais. The main objective of the Fund is the project implementation concerning greenhouse emissions reductions in Russia and attraction of "green" investment in the modernization of Russia's electric power industry. Energy Carbon Fund and RAO UESR's experts as a part of Russian Delegation have participated in 6, 7, 8 and 9th Conferences of Parties of Kyoto Protocol.

** The e7 is an international non-profit organization. The full members of the e7 are the biggest utilities from G8 countries: RAO "UES of Russia" (Russia), American Electric Power (USA), EDF (France), Enel (Italy), Hydro-Quebec (Canada), KANSAI (Japan), Ontario Power Generation (Canada), RWE (Germany), Scottish Power (UK) and TEPCO (Japan). Since this May RAO "UES of Russia" was granted full e7 membership, now the e7 is undergoing procedures to change its name to e8.
