Kyrgyzstan starts electricity supplies to Russia

Moscow, 18 September. Kyrgyzstan has started electricity supplies to Russia via Kazakhstan's energy system. An agreement to that effect has been signed by RAO UES subsidiary ZAO "INTER RAO UES" and the energy company AO "Kyrghyzstan Power Plants".

The electricity supplied to Russia is generated by Toktogulskaya HPP. Experts say electricity supplies from Kyrgyzstan may come to 800 million kWh over the next two and a half months.

This project has become feasible thanks to parallel operation of the energy systems of Russia, CIS countries and the Baltic Republics. Imports of cheap electricity generated at Toktogulskaya HPP to Russia will help improve the cost balance of Russia's Federal Wholesale Electricity Market (FOREM).
